McLean School of Maryland

Meet Chris Husband

evolving scientist, world traveler, planet saver

“I was that kid who liked to mix things together and light stuff on fire, so science was an early aspiration,” says Chris, “but my favorite McLean teacher nurtured my interest and built my confidence.”

A citizen of South Africa and an environmental science major at the University of Western Ontario, Chris follows his interests wherever they lead. This summer he’s visiting Mongolia to study the impacts of historical climate change on forests. McLean’s intimate environment prepared him to succeed in the wider world. “I didn’t do well in my previous school,” he says, “but at McLean I couldn’t fade into the woodwork. The teachers didn’t let me slip, and I could always talk with them.”

Of course, as any forest scholar knows, strong roots are forever vital. “Every time I come home from college,” Chris says, “I go back to visit McLean.”
