McLean School of Maryland

Meet Brandon Royal

ambassador, teacher, team player

“Talk doesn’t cook rice.” Brandon Royal, Asian Studies major at Manhattanville College, exemplifies this Chinese proverb. He’s a doer and a helper.

Winner of McLean’s Head of School Award, Brandon’s the kind of guy who sets up a hot chocolate and muffin stand to support fellow students during midterms. He’s an airport ambassador, assisting customers in Mandarin, and has taught English to local Chinese immigrants.

“To teach another person, you need a lot of patience,” he says. “McLean teachers are very patient in helping students with different learning styles. They took time after class and after school to help me.”

A natural diplomat who was vice president of the student body, Brandon wants a career where he can improve relations between the U.S. and China. With his initiative, patience and sensitivity, he’s the right man for the job.
