McLean School of Maryland

Upper School Medieval Science Day

Parts of McLean’s Upper School transformed themselves into barely recognizable medieval locations allowing many students to participate in Medieval Science Day.

Within their regular classes, students took on the role of a character from medieval times and from a particular continent or subcontinent. Part of the activity involved chemistry students considering what materials were available and physics students looking at medieval machines. Activities included turning pennies first to “silver” and then into “gold” as well as launching missiles from a one-sixth scale trebuchet (catapult).
