Drop by and notice the inviting reading nooks in the young adults section. Sit back and listen to a book read by Mrs. Zycherman, head librarian, during one of her classes. The library is a hot bed of activity.

On Thursday, February 9th, the library hosted the Third and Fourth grade Book-A-Demic game show . It was the exciting culmination of a reading incentive program.

“Lovin’ Your Library” day is on Tuesday, February 14th and parents are invited. Please stop by anytime between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM to help us celebrate the grand debut of this year’s new collection of professional titles, reference materials, fiction, non-fiction, audiotapes and videos. Please take special note of our professional section which includes materials for parents and teachers on learning styles, ADHD, peer pressure, adoption, bullying and other important issues. We hope that you can join us!

It is that time of year again for the celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday on Thursday, March 2nd in the library. It is a component of the Read Across America Project. Parents of grades K-4 students are invited to join us in the library for a sharing of Dr. Seuss titles. It will be followed by a birthday party, treats and all!

McLean’s 1st-4th grade students have the great opportunity of joining an Alaskan thematic reading program for the first two weeks in March. As participants in the “IditaREAD” program, students can read or listen to books or stories about Alaska, sled dog racing, Balto, wolves, dogs, Native Alaskan (Inuit) stories, or the Iditarod Trail Sled Race. Although participation is voluntary, each student is encouraged to register for the “race” and enjoy the wealth of great stories and excitement of the actual Iditarod Race.
